Nathan Roberts of FlatEarthDoctrine posted the following false teaching.
Flat earther Nathan Roberts proclaimed on his FlatEarthDoctrine Facebook page:
1 John 5:7 – “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
I’m not able to comment on Nathan Roberts FlatEarthDoctrine Facebook page, and it’s not would he likely that he would listen to me anyway.
In the King James, it reads:
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one”
Here’s the problem. The section, referred to as “Comma Johannuem”, does not exist in the oldest Greek manuscripts of Aleph, A, B, and the Vulgate. Comma Johannuem refers to this short clause in 1 John 5:7-8 in the Latin Vulgate (Catholic version). It was then included in the Textus Receptus.
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
The more literal translation, the ISR 98, does not include the part of the text which is not found in all of the manuscripts. It leaves out “the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” part, because it is not in the manuscripts.
Verse 7 “Because there are three who bear witness:” Verse 8 “the Spirit, and the water, and the blood. And the three are in agreement.”

These people on the FlatEarthDoctrine Facebook page gave Nathan Roberts the truth. The question is, what will he do with it?
Cory N Melissa Chandley If you look in your bible you will see this verse in parentheses. That means that it was not originally part of the text but rather added later on. This text was not inserted until around the 16th century when it was found in catholic monastery in Ireland. Before that time this exact verse was nonexistent.
TheLion WithinUs That is found in the KJV. Its called the “comma Johanneum”. Its a complete addition to the Word of God, breaking God’s Law about adding to and taking away. Don’t believe me look it up. It was added to support the false trinity doctrine (3 all being equal and morphed into one entity).
This is how it should have actually been translated.
1 John 5:7-8 ,”Because there are three who bear witness: 8 the Spirit, and the water, and the blood. And the three are in agreement.”
Mike Jones Exactly, the question should be asking is why would they need to add a verse to support the false Trinity doctrine if was already so plain to see in scripture?
Nathan Roberts is also very confused about what Scripture proclaims about the shape of the earth, as he takes Bible verses out of context, to make them seem like they’re pointing to a flat earth.
