The Names Of The Father And The Son

This Revelation 18:4 – Come Out Of Her study discusses the names of the Father and the Son.

I think that one of the biggest deceptions is that the enemy has caused people to not understand the Father’s personal, covenant name.  The enemy has conditioned people to call Him by the titles of God and Lord, and has pushed His name which is proclaimed in Scripture.

The New King James Bible clearly admits that it changed the Father’s covenant name, “The Covenant Name of God in the Old Testament, represented by the Hebrew consonants YHUH is translated “Lord” or “God” as it was in the King James.”

Why would they remove the name of the Father?

Let’s start by focusing on Messiah’s name, as it’s a topic that is debated a lot these days.

People debate about whether we should use the English Jesus, the Greek Iesous, the Aramaic Yeshua or the Hebrew Yahusha; so let’s look at the history of the name Iesous/Jesus.

Millions of people throughout history have used the English name Jesus, including great theologians such as Albert Barnes, Adam Clarke, Charles Spurgeon, John Gill, Matthew Poole, and many more. The preachers of the Great Awakening, who held great revival meetings in America and spread Bibles around the world; used the English name Jesus.

But there are some people today, Hebrew Roots Movement types, who condemn the Greek/English name; and even proclaim that you can’t be saved if you use it. They proclaim that Roman Emperor Constantine created the name Iesous Christos, and that it’s pagan and pointing to a false messiah.

People proclaim that Jesus Christ means ‘Hail Zeus‘ and ‘earth pig‘; but I’ve consulted with a believer who lives in Athens Greece; and she said “Absolutely no! Neither of them is true and I hear this first time in my life. No of course not.”

Here’s a video that shows how the name Iesous/Jesus was derived from the Hebrew/Aramaic, and that it’s origin means YHUH saves.

The Greek Septuagint Old Testament renders Joshua’s name as Iesous (Ιησους), which is the same New Testament Greek word that is rendered as Jesus in English.

The Old Testament was translated from Hebrew into Greek, which is known as the Septuagint.  It is estimated that the first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Torah or Pentateuch, were translated in the mid-3rd century BCE and the remaining texts were translated in the 2nd century BCE.

According to an ancient document called the Letter of Aristeas, it is believed that 70 to 72 Jewish scholars were commissioned during the reign of Ptolemy Philadelphus to carry out the task of translation. The term “Septuagint” means seventy in Latin, and the text is so named to the credit of these 70 scholars.

The English names Joshua and Jesus are derived from the same Hebrew word 3091 יְהוֹשׁוּעַ Yehoshua or יְהוֹשֻׁעַ Yehoshua.

Joshua 1:1 in the Greek Septuagint, reads “ΚΑΙ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν τελευτὴν Μωυσῆ, εἶπε Κύριος τῷ ᾿Ιησοῖ υἱῷ Ναυὴ τῷ ὑπουργῷ Μωυσῆ λέγων·”

The King James Bible reads, “Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua (᾿Ιησοῖ, Iesous) the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,”

We can see that the Greek Septuagint Old Testament Joshua, and the Greek New Testament Jesus, and are both based on the Greek Iēsous.

The question becomes, why did the Bible translators render Messiah’s name as Jesus instead of Joshua.  We can see the translators conflict in these two verses, which are about Joshua, but were rendered by the KJ as Jesus.

The King James reads, “Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;” Acts 7:45

The Scriptures (ISR) reads, “which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Yehoshua into the land possessed by the nations, whom Elohim drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of Dawiḏ,” Acts 7:45

The King James reads, “For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.” Hebrews 4:8

The Scriptures (ISR) reads, “For if Yehoshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.” Hebrews 4:8

The Greek Septuagint Old Testament use of Iesous is important, because it destroys the false teaching that Emperor Constantine created the name Iesous, which became Jesus.

The constellation Comah is called Ihesu, pointing to Iesous, Messiah.

The enemy has tricked believers into ignoring the story of the constellations as they declare the Gospel of Messiah redeeming His set-apart saints. The enemy changed the meanings to make them about pagan gods, to hide the truth which has been declared since creation.

The constellation Virgo represents the virgin-born seed, Messiah the incarnate Son.

The decan constellation of Virgo, Comah, represents the woman and the child, the desired of all nations.

The ancient name of this constellation is Comah, the desired, or the longed for. We have the word used by the Holy Spirit in this very connection, in Haggai 2:7–“The DESIRE of all nations shall come.”

The ancient Zodiacs pictured this constellation as a woman with a child in her arms. ALBUMAZAR * (or ABU MASHER), an Arabian astronomer of the eighth century, says, “There arises in the first Decan, as the Persians, Chaldeans, and Egyptians, and the two HERMES and ASCALIUS teach, a young woman whose Persian name denotes a pure virgin, sitting on a throne, nourishing an infant boy (the boy, I say), having a Hebrew name, by some nations called IHESU, with the signification IEZA, which in Greek is called CHRISTOS.”

Coma - Messiah with mother

Messiah’s name was written on a plaque that was placed over Him when He was crucified, and His name was written in Greek.

“And there was also an inscription written over Him in letters of Greek, and Roman (Latin), and Hebrew: THIS IS THE SOVEREIGN OF THE YEHUḎIM.” Luke 23:38

The New Testament Textus Receptus manuscripts show Messiah’s name in Greek.

The Textus Receptus, called the Majority Text, which represents over 90% of the 5,800+ Greek manuscripts of the New Testament still in existence today.

Matthew 1:1 in the King James reads, The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

The Textus Receptus read,

We can see by the witness of the New Testament manuscripts, that Messiah’s name was written in Greek, not Hebrew.

Ignatius of Antioch wrote a letter to the Magnesians in 110 AD.

Here’s a link to his letter to the Magnesians in Greek. The letter starts with:

Γνους υμων το πολυευτακτον της κατα θεον αγαπης, αγαλλιωμενος, προειλαμην εν πιστει Ιησου Χριστου προσλαλησαι υμιν.

“I was delighted to hear of your well-disciplined and godly love; and hence, impelled by faith in Jesus Christ, I decided to write to you.”

Polycarp, who lived from 70-155 AD, was a direct pupil of the Apostle John.

Here’s a link to an Epistle to the Philippians that he wrote, which shows the Greek and English.  In the Greek it is Ἰησοῦ Χρισῷ, which in English is Jesus Christ.

¹I have greatly rejoiced with you in our Lord Jesus Christ, because ye have followed the example of true love [as displayed by God], and have accompanied, as became you, those who were bound in chains, the fitting ornaments of saints, and which are indeed the diadems of the true elect of God and our Lord;

So right there is proof that early church fathers used the Greek transliteration of Messiah’s name, in the 1st-2nd century.

Ignatius of Antioch, who lived from 30–107 AD, was a contemporary of Messiah and the Apostle John.

In his Epistle to the Ephesians, we see the Greek “Love in Christ Jesus.”

In his Epistle to the Magnesians, we see the Greek “Jesus Christ.”

Clement of Rome, who lived from 30–100 AD, was a contemporary of Messiah and the Apostle John.

In his First Epistle of Clement to the believers in Corinth, we see Iesous Christos in the Greek text of chapter 32, verse 4.

And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

First century Jewish historian Josephus, who wrote the Antiquities of the Jews, documented the names Iesous and Christianos.

In the book, Josephus: The Essential Writings by Flavius Josephus, it says,

Now there was about this time Iesous, a wise man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross,  those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; And the tribe of Christianos, so named from him, are not extinct at this day. (Antiquities, Book 18, Chapter 3, Paragraph 3)

The second mention of Jesus in the Antiquities, says,

And so he convened the judges of the Sanhedrin, and brought before them the brother of Iesous, the one called Christos, whose name was James, and certain others, and accusing them of having transgressed the law delivered them up to be stoned. (Book 20, Chapter 9, Paragraph 1)

Here’s old Greek, modern Greek and English from the writing of Josephus.

“Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was the Christ; and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct to this day.”

Josephus in Antiquities of the Jews Book 20, Chapter 9; mentioned Messiah again, when speaking about His brother James being killed.

“so he assembled the sanhedrin of judges, and brought before them the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, (ton adelphon Iesou tou legomenou Christou), whose name was James,”

These witnesses clearly show that the Greek transliteration of Messiah’s name has been used since the 1st century, and the name Jesus Christ is not an invention of Constantine in the 4th century, as some people proclaim!

Here’s a question for people who deny the validity of the Greek transliteration of Messiah’s name:

Where is written evidence of the saints using Messiah’s Hebrew name from 100-2000 AD? What manuscripts or letters contain His Hebrew name?

Please comment below.

The title of Christ and Christians is valid.

The Christ child was foretold from creation, in the stars, so the enemy has created many pagan gods that are named Christos, and have a derivative that name, such as Lord Krishna in the religion of Hinduism. Roman Emperor Constantine worshiped “Christos Helios” which means “Christ-The-True-Sun.” “Chrestos” as revered by Greeks and Romans was none other than “Osiris,” a Sun-diety of Egypt.

Acts 11:26 in the King James reads, “And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”

The word ‘Christians’ is the Greek word 5546 Christianos khris-tee-an-os’

The Aramaic-English New Testament uses the word Kristianay.

Gentile believers in Antioch copied the Scriptures and they used the name Kristianay, a term for Messianics.

So the title of Christ was not created by Constantine, as it was used in the first few centuries by the disciples who wrote the New Testament books.

The Apostle John used the Greek word antichristos to describe the enemy of Messiah, the Christ; once again validating the title of Christ.

Does the name Iesous/Jesus mean ‘The Father saves‘?

Names in Scripture have meaning.  Messiah came in His Father’s name.  Messiah came to save.  His name should mean “the Father saves”.

So let’s look at some Greek and Hebrew words to see what the underlying meaning of Jesus really is:

The name Jesus in Strong’s Greek Dictionary is IESOUS or IHSOUS.

Strong’s Greek 2424. Ιησους Iesous: of Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:—Jesus.

Strong’s Hebrew 3091 means Jehovah-saved.

@howshuwa` yeh-ho-shoo’-ah or Yhowshua {yeh-ho-shoo’-ah}; from 3068 and 3467; Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (i.e. Joshua), The Jewish leader:—Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Compare 1954, 3442.

Strong’s Hebrew 3068 points to Jehovah.

Y@hovah yeh-ho-vaw’ from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:—Jehovah, the Lord. Compare 3050

Strong’s Hebrew 3050 points to Jah/Yah

Yahh yaw – contraction for 3068, and meaning the same; Jah, the sacred name:—Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Compare names in “-iah,” “- jah.”

Strong’s Hebrew 3467 points to salvation, being the deliverer, getting the victory; which is what our Messiah did.

yasha` yaw-shah’ – a primitive root; properly, to be open, wide or free, i.e. (by implication) to be safe; causatively, to free or succor:—X at all, avenging, defend, deliver(-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation,

save(-iour), get victory.

Strong’s Hebrew 1954 points to our deliver.

Howshea` ho-shay’-ah from 3467; deliverer; Hoshea, the name of five Israelites:—Hosea, Hoshea, Oshea.

Strong’s Hebrew 3442 points to ‘he will save’.

Yeshuwa` yay-shoo’-ah for 3091; he will save; Jeshua, the name of ten Israelites, also of a place in Palestine:—Jeshua.

So we can see that Iesous/Jesus points to the Father saving, which is what it should mean.

Iesous/Jesus vs. Joshua

In Acts 7:45, Stephen is standing before the Jews, recalling the history of their people, when he mentions Joshua.

Then in Acts 7:55, when Stephen is talking about the Jewish leaders killing Messiah, it’s the same Greek word G2424 IESOUS, and it is rendered as Jesus.

The point is that the name Joshua and Jesus are both based on the Greek IESOUS.

The English transliteration of Messiah’s Hebrew name, would be better rendered as Joshua.

People also condemn the title of Christ, saying that it’s pagan; but if the enemy is the antichrist, then the Messiah is the Christ.  The enemy opposes Christ, and proclaims to be the substitute Christ; thus they are antichrist.

5547. Χριστος Christos from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:—Christ.

500. αντιχριστος antichristos from 473 and 5547; an opponent of the Messiah:—antichrist.

Y’shua / Y’hoshua / Yeshua in the Aramaic-English New Testament.

Since I’ve been reading an Aramaic New Testament, which is based on the Aramaic manuscripts, not the Greek manuscripts; it’s opened my eyes a bit to the names of the Father and Son.

The Aramaic New Testament uses Y’shua for Messiah’s name; which is short for Y’hoshua and means Yahweh is Salvation.

Aramaic is a sister-language to Hebrew, and it is a language that Messiah and His disciples spoke.

So though ‘shua’ in Hebrew means ‘to cry’; in Aramaic ‘hoshua’ means ‘salvation’.

We know Messiah’s name means ‘the Father saves’.  In Hebrew that is sounded out one way, in Aramaic another.

The bottom line is that the Father and Messiah know the intention of our hearts, and that is what matters most.

The Heavenly Father declares His name in Psalms 68:4.

Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.

There was no letter J when the Old Testament was written, so it would have been spelled and pronounced YAH.

JAH in Psalms 68:4 is Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary is word 3050. Yahh, which means; Jah, the sacred name:—Jah, the Lord, most vehement. Compare names in “-iah,” “- jah.”

The Hebrew word Yah is found 45 times in Old Testament. Every time the all caps word LORD is used in the King James, it represents the Hebrew name for the Father, Yah.

Psalms 111:1 Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

Psalms 112:1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

Psalms 113:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.

Psalms 118:17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.

Psalms 118:18 The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

Psalms 118:19 Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:

Psalms 122:4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.

Psalms 130:3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

Psalms 135:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye servants of the LORD.

Psalms 135:3 Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.

Psalms 135:4 For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

Psalms 135:21 Blessed be the LORD out of Zion, which dwelleth at Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalms 147:1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

Psalms 147:20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalms 148:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.

Psalms 148:14 He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalms 149:1 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.

Psalms 149:9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

Psalms 150:1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

Psalms 150:6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Psalms 26:4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Psalms 38:11 I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

We see clear evidence the title of LORD points to the Father’s name, YAH.

The word Hallelujah points to Praise ye (Hallel) Yah (Jah). HalleluYAH!

In the name JAH in the Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary, it tells us to compare names in “-iah,” “- jah.”

We see this applied in the names of the Old Testament prophets. We know them by the English version of their name, but they had Hebrew names which include the name of Yah. The Prophets names reflect the Father’s name, to give Him glory.

The English names of the prophets and Apostles does not convey their meaning, which Yah gave to them.

Daniel should be Dani’ĕl, which means “Judge of El

Elijah should be Ěliyah, which means “my God is Yah” or “mighty one of Yah”

Hezekiah in Hebrew is Chizqiyahu means ‘Yah strengthens.’

Isaiah should be Yeshayahu, which means “Yah is salvation

Jeremiah should be Yirmiyahu , which means “Yah will raise

Matthew should be Mattithyah, which means “Gift of Yah

Obadiah should be Oḇaḏyah, which means “Worshipper of Yah

Paul should be Sha’ul, which means “humbled by Yah

Samuel should be Shemuw’El, which means “heard of El

Zechariah should be Zeḵaryah, which means “Remembrance of Yah or Yah remembers

Zephaniah should be Zephanyah, which means “Protected by Yah or hidden by Yah

The tetragrammaton represents the Heavenly Father’s name. In Hebrew, the four letters are YHUH. In Aramaic, the four letters are YHWH.

Adding vowel points to the Hebrew YHUH explains it to YaHUaH. Adding vowel points to the Aramaic YHWH explains it to YaHWeH.

Some people proclaim that the name YAH comes from Babylon pagan god worship, but that’s a false association.

Satan perverts the things of the Father to steal glory from Him, but that doesn’t invalidate that the name Yah is proclaimed in Scripture.

This isn’t a detailed study, but hopefully it’s given you greater understanding about the names of the Father and the Son.

  2. The world is about to meet its Creator and the Good News was proclaimed to world through the name JESUS… are you saying that the sufferings of those people who reached out to others were in vain because they did not know the right name of the Creator? the One who died on the cross??

Truly, too much knowledge will deceive you…

So the “few” people who took the narrow gate are just you and those less than “very few” people who just happened to know the right Name are gonna be saved???

Then the text should be changed into “almost nothing who took the narrow gate”

My friend, was the “Name” that you know was the same Name that was preached to the world??? If not then, truly, the second coming will be very far and distant time as the Good News, as you think, must be preached to the whole world using the “Name” that you know.

Truly… In the last days… People will increase knowledge… And then…

    • Daniel, I’m simply sharing that Messiah’s parents and disciples called Him by His Hebrew name. Why is that offensive to you?

I was saved using the name Jesus, as were many millions of people.

I clearly declared on the website:

Regarding the name Jesus, I am not one who proclaims that if you use the name Jesus, you are not saved.

Millions of people throughout history have used the Greek name Jesus, including great theologians such as Albert Barnes, Adam Clarke, Charles Spurgeon, John Gill, Matthew Poole, and many more.

The preachers of the Great Awakening, in which they spread around the world and have great revival meetings in America, and spread Bibles around the world; used the Greek name Jesus.

  3. There Is so much deception this world. There are so many scriptures in the New Testament that proclaim the name of The Father, The Son, & The Holy Spirit is JESUS. The Father is a Big Boy! His Bible He has control of. He would never allow His name to be incorrect throughout the entire Bible for the entire world to be deceived and go to hell. The Bible does not say the name above all names is Yahawashi, Yah, Hayaha, Yahoshua, Yahusha and all that other jazz from the new age name movement. Evil does not flee from these names! People think. Use your brains. The name of JESUS is under attack! The deceiver is doing everything he/she can to stop you from speaking the name of JESUS. The book of John teaches us JESUS and The Father are One! The deceiver has almost everyone convinced the letter J was not used until developed by the Greeks some 500 years ago. LIES. The alphabet used by the first man to be “RAPTURED” to walk with The Father was Enoch. The Enochian Alphabet has the letter J. If the Greek claim was legitimate, there would be no Jerusalem or Jew. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 Stand fast and hold the traditions which you have been taught. Philippians 2:9-11 wherefor the Father also have highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of JESUS every knee should bow of things in Heaven, things in the earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that JESUS Christ is LORD to the glory of God the Father. Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of JESUS Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. John 14:6 Jesus said unto him I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me. If you have seen Me you have seen Father also. 2 Timothy 1:13 hold fast the form of sound doctrine which thou has been taught of me in faith and love which is in Christ JESUS. 2 Timothy 1:7 for the Father hath not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind. Revelation 1:8 I am the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end, thus saith the LORD JESUS which is, which was and which is to come, the Almighty. 1:11 Jesus said I am Alpha and Omega the first and the last. 1:17-18 Fear not, I am the first and the last. I am He that liveth, and was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen. I have keys of hell and death. 22:12-13 and behold, I come quickly, and My reward is with me, to give every man according to his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, first and the last. Psalms 103:17 The LORD is Everlasting to Everlasting. JESUS CHRIST is The Father whether you believe it or not.

    • John, it would seem that you are basing your comment on Bibles which renders Messiah’s name as Jesus, but that actual Greek and Aramaic manuscripts do not say Jesus.

The Old Testament manuscripts include the personal name of the Father, but Bibles replaced His name with the titles of God and Lord.

So your argument has no merit.

This article does not condemn people who use Jesus, God or Lord; it simply shares the truth about what the manuscripts say.

  5. A Believer’s Creed
Just wish to share this. My take on the Apostle’s Creed “A BELIEVER’S CREED”
I believe in Yahuah, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Yahusha HaMashyach, his only Son, our Savior, who was conceived by the Ruach Ha-Kodesh, born of the Virgin Miryam, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell: The third day He rose from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of Yahuah the Father Almighty: From heaven He shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in Ruach Ha-Kodesh: I believe in the assembly of believers: the communion of saints: the forgiveness of sins: the resurrection of the body: and the life everlasting. Amen

    • Thank you for sharing that Believer’s Creed. I would point out that Messiah didn’t descend into hell, but only buried. He was dead in the tomb, not fighting against Satan in hell.

Blessings to you in Yahuah’s mighty name! David
